In all fairness, and because I promised, here’s another video, this time touting DPS’ work with Everyday Math. A former teacher asked me to.
I’m still feeling like we need a blend of teaching/learning approaches for our math curriculum. There’s a place for this math curiculum.
But here’s an issue: do we help kids learn in robust ways with various perspectives, or do we teach them what’s on the CSAP?
I think you know what my answer will be, and the solution is to give school communities more site-based curriculum decision-making power to discern that for themselves. The goal should be to teach kids well so that they pass the CSAP by default.
Right?
Tell me what you think in the comments below.
Interesting, no parents were interviewed.
The parents I know hate the program and have to heavily supplement either at home or by hiring tutors.
Nice feel-good video!! Too bad it’s not realistic
Yes, and guess how EDM becomes such a ‘success?” Because those parents have their children tutored that’s why. Very little by way of reliable data figures this little nugget of truth into the “success” of EDM.
The program itself is junk and I’m sure is the cause of many students having IEP’s for math only.
