From the Southwest Denver Education Coalition:
You are cordially invited to take part in the fourth annual Southwest Denver Education Coalition’s Celebration of Excellence Awards to recognize the DPS staff, volunteers, and students who exemplify excellence in our southwest Denver schools. The awards ceremony will be on Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at 7 PM in the Henry World School auditorium at 3055 South Golden Way. This year’s event is preceded by the second annual School of Choice Fair featuring information on southwest Denver schools for interested parents, students and families from 6 to 6:50 p.m.
There are many impressive things happening in our southwest Denver public schools that are not frequently recognized by the community at large—students are engaged and working hard, staff members are dedicated and innovative, and community volunteers are enthusiastic and committed to their schools.
You are invited to join us in honoring those staff members, volunteers and students who embody the success and excellence in the southwest Denver public schools including Denison Montessori, Gust Elementary, Kaiser Elementary, Sabin Elementary, Traylor Academy, Grant Ranch School, West Denver Preparatory Academy, Henry World School, Kepner Middle School, Kunsmiller Creative Arts Academy, and Kennedy High School.
Join us in this celebration to honor the dedicated and committed staff members, volunteers and students who might otherwise go unrecognized.
I’ll be there, “with bells on,” as I told SWDEC.
I am wondering why high Latino populated schools like Lincoln HS is never invited to this group’s meeting? If all district 2 schools are included??
Thanks for your comment. The truth is that Lincoln HAS been invited repeatedly. It has not been a priority for Lincoln’s principal to facilitate the school’s involvement. Other schools that feed into Lincoln, like Kepner and Force, are regular participants.
Don’t forget that Kennedy is nearly 70% Latino too. In fact, EVERY school in District 2/Southwest Denver has a high Latino population. This area still holds the majority of Latino and ELL students in the entire district.
Parents and community are always welcome to join SWDEC, and I encourage you to do so. They are a community group and are always looking for new members. Send them an email at info@sweducation.org and find out how to get involved.
