I spent a good amount of time talking with Mario Solis-Marich of AM760 today about various education policy issues. Click the little gray arrow below to listen to the interview.
Andrea talks education policy topics with Mario Solis-Marich on March 3, 2011
Also, here are links to the topics I was addressing:
Hi Andrea– i am a teacher in a NW school and i am wondering if you know of the exact amount that the state of Colorado spends on CSAP each year and then the amount DPS spends separately as we have quite a lot of people in the assessment department that do little else as well as a considerable amount of time by coordinators at each bulding. Anyway, these would be great numbers to know for a couple of letters to the editor that I am planning. Plus those are numbers that all of us need to know…especially in the face of all of the cuts.
PS–Love hearing you on Mario’s show!
Hi Lynne, thanks for commenting. In 2005, we spent around $25 million on the CSAP, according to the Donnell Kay and Piton foundations: http://www.piton.org/Documents/PF-002%20Student%20Testing_r2.pdf
They estimated a cost of $52.43 per student to administer the test in grades 3-10.
Right now in DPS, we have approximately 44,975 students that will take the CSAP, so using the report’s 2007 figures, that would translate into $2,345,980.35 that DPS is spending on administering the CSAP this week and last.
This is based on our current student membership report, found here: http://planning.dpsk12.org/Demographics_Statistics/Membership_Reports/MembershipByGrade_2010.pdf
Hope that helps you out.
